How to Relieve Pelvic Pain During Pregnancy?
Pregnancy is a beautiful thing, although it can also take quite a toll on a woman’s body. And while you are dreaming of the moment that you’ll finally be able to hold your little one, you’re most likely also looking forward to getting relief from pregnancy’s side effects. One of the most common ailments expecting mothers go through is pelvic pain. Pelvic pain can be felt in the hips, reproductive organs, lower back, and lower stomach. So, while pelvic pain during pregnancy is normal, you do not have to suffer in silence. Learn how to find relief from pelvic pain during pregnancy here.
Symptoms of Pelvic Pain During Pregnancy
You may experience pelvic pain during different stages of pregnancy for various reasons. For example, you may feel pelvic pain during the first trimester due to your expanding uterus. This pain is usually felt in the lower pelvis. During the second trimester, the ligaments from your groin to your uterus begin to stretch, leading to pain and cramping in the pelvic area. Finally, pelvic discomfort and pain are very common during the third trimester. This pain is due to your baby’s weight putting lots of pressure on the nerves that run from your vagina into your legs. Pain often comes and goes, although walking, bending, spreading apart your legs, and climbing stairs can worsen your pain.
Finding Relief
In addition, your physical therapist can teach you several stretches and exercises that can help relieve pelvic pain and support your pelvic floor, stomach, back, and hip muscles. Knowing your pain limits and avoiding any movement that severely worsens pain is also essential. Other ways to relieve pelvic pain are wearing supportive shoes, sleeping on your side with a pillow between your legs, avoiding bending or twisting when lifting, and avoiding standing for long periods. Physical therapy is a great way to relieve pelvic pain to help your pregnancy and delivery go smoothly.
